Jenna is a first time nominee at the awards show for her work as the titular character on the hit Netflix series Wednesday – she is up for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy, alongside fellow Disney Channel alum Selena Gomez.

Wednesday is also competing against Selena‘s show Only Murders in the Building for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy.

Jenna and Percy not only star together in Wednesday, they also have a new movie together, which they filmed in Utah, starting in late October.

Wednesday was just renewed for a second season last week, after spending six weeks as the No 1 English language show on Netflix!

After going untelevised in 2022, the Golden Globes returns in time to celebrate its 80th anniversary. Jennifer Coolidge is leaving behind the murderous yachts and islands of Sicily for the no-less-dramatic world of the Golden Globes. The “White Lotus” star will be one of the presenters at Tuesday’s award ceremony, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced Monday.

In addition to Coolidge, Claire Danes, Cole Hauser, Glen Powell, Harvey Guillén, Henry Golding, Hilary Swank, Jay Ellis, Jenna Ortega, Jennifer Hudson, Letitia Wright, Mo Brings Plenty, Regina Hall, and Salma Hayek Pinault will also serve as presenters at the event. In addition to the presenters, HFPA also announced that the ceremony will include a videotaped message from Ukrainian president Vlodoymyr Zelenskyy, which will be introduced by Sean Penn. Reports of the death of “Wednesday” at Netflix have been greatly exaggerated. Just days after the spread of rumors that the “Addams Family” teen series might leave the streamer for its rival, Amazon Prime Video, Netflix finally gave a second season renewal to the series January 6, confirming that it would air “Only on Netflix.”

“It’s been incredible to create a show that has connected with people across the world,” showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar said in a statement to Netflix’s official fandom website Tudum. “Thrilled to continue Wednesday’s tortuous journey into season two. We can’t wait to dive headfirst into another season and explore the kooky spooky world of Nevermore. Just need to make sure Wednesday hasn’t emptied the pool first.”

Since its eight-episode first season premiered on November 23, “Wednesday” has been touted by Netflix as one of its all-time most successful series, breaking a variety of records (for English-language shows, at least. “Squid Game” still reigns supreme overall): biggest debut week of a Netflix show at 341.23 million hours viewed! Biggest week overall at 411.3 million hours viewed! Third ever billion-hour season, behind only “Squid Game” and “Stranger Things 4!”

In spite of this blazing success at the streamer, there was some speculation from outlets like The Independent that Netflix waiting over a month to renew the show was due to issues with the production company MGM, which was acquired by Amazon in a deal last spring, and that the series might potentially move to Prime Video. A source at MGM told IndieWire that the deal between MGM and Netflix to produce the series was set before the Amazon acquisition, and thus would not be affected.

Based on “The Addams Family” cartoons created by Charles Addams, “Wednesday” stars Jenna Ortega as the titular character, the daughter of the famously macabre family and a teenage girl with a deadpan disposition and love of violence. The series sees Wednesday shipped off to Nevermore Academy, where she makes new friends, develops psychic abilities, and investigates a string of murders around the town of Jericho, Vermont. Ortega is joined in the cast by Gwendoline Christie, Jamie McShane, Percy Hynes White, Hunter Doohan, Emma Myers, Joy Sunday, Naomi J Ogawa, Moosa Mostafa, Georgie Farmer, Riki Lindhome, and Christina Ricci, whose portrayal of Wednesday in the 1991 and 1993 “Addams Family” films helped define the character’s iconic personality and look. Last year, it was announced that Amazon and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) had officially merged. The $8.5 billion deal closed in March of 2022, and Wednesday debuted on Netflix in November of 2022. The issue? MGM owns the rights to The Addams Family, meaning Amazon theoretically could have first dibs for the show to be on Amazon’s Prime Video streaming service for season 2. The show stars Jenna Ortega in the lead role.

Some other details have been explained including that Amazon previously said it does not plan to exclusively stream the rights to all MGM content. In addition, Netflix could theoretically pay for the rights to stream season two, The Independent reports.

None of this has been confirmed by any party involved, so at this time, it’s largely speculation that is now spreading rapidly on social media.

It’s hard to think of a scene from Netflix’s new series Wednesday that is more popular than the iconic dance scene starring Jenna Ortega.

The moment sparked a viral meme when fans filmed themselves doing the choreography and used Lady Gaga‘s throwback song “Bloody Mary” to soundtrack their moves. Mother Monster herself even got in on the fun!

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, creator Miles Millar addressed the situation and assured fans that safety precautions were followed.

“We had extremely stringent COVID protocols that were enforced all the way through the dance,” they explained. “Jenna tested negative the day before, and only when a positive test came back, and as soon as it did, she was escorted off the set and went into quarantine for I think 10 days.”

Miles added that “there was no compromising of that in any decision to keep filming and film Jenna ill or sick, it was never a discussion,” opining that “it was one of those things that basically was sort of blown out of proportion in terms of a story.”

Wednesday creators Al Gough and Miles Millar were asked about the possibility during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

By the sounds of it, anything is possible, but it isn’t guaranteed.

Al stressed that “female friendship” was one of the most important components of the show for them and noted that Wednesday and Enid are at “the center of that.”

Miles agreed that “sisterhood is key to the show.”

“We’re not gonna discount anything, and, obviously, sometimes characters reveal themselves, which is the fun thing we love about television, that it’s an organic journey,” Miles added about the possibility of a relationship developing. “We have a roadmap, and we’d like to have routes along that map that take you in unexpected directions. So, we’re open to everything. We wanna explore that friendship in every way, but we’re not gonna be, this is where you sometimes get misdirected by fans and things like that, so it’s just being really open to see how those characters develop and that friendship. As Al said, that friendship is key to our sort of vision of the show.”

They then spend four days together over the course of a year that will change their lives forever.

Jenna will also be producing the movie, along with MPCA’s Brad Kevoy, Wall Fly’s Josh Shader and David Wulf.

Can you hear that blood-curdling “Scream”?

“Scream 6,” the next film in the iconic franchise, directed by Radio Silence’s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, is the first “Scream” movie without iconic final girl Neve Campbell, but that’s not all that’s changed. While other iterations of the series have traveled outside the confines of fictional suburban town Woodsboro, this time, Ghostface is going even farther afield: he wants to take a bloody bite out of the Big Apple.

“Scream 6,” in theaters March 31, 2023, stars the new core group of survivors from “Scream 5,” including Jenna Ortega, Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Mason Gooding. “Scream 4” alum Hayden Panettiere is back as wise-cracking cinephile Kirby, while Dermot Mulroney makes his franchise debut as a police officer. Courteney Cox will reprise the role of reporter Gale Weathers. The script is penned by “Scream 5” co-screenwriters James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick.

“It just gets more and more gory,” star Ortega said earlier this year. “I think that this is probably the most aggressive and violent version of Ghostface we’ve ever seen, which I think will really be fun to shoot.”

Co-star Barrera, who plays Ortega’s onscreen half-sister and daughter of the original Ghostface slasher (Skeet Ulrich), added that the New York City premise is “20 times more mortifying.”

Longtime “Scream” star Campbell announced in June 2022 that she was exiting the franchise after almost 30 years as Sidney Prescott. “I did not feel that what I was being offered equated to the value that I bring to this franchise, and have brought to this franchise, for 25 years,” Campbell said of the salary dispute that led to her exit. “As a woman in this business, I think it’s really important for us to be valued and to fight to be valued. I honestly don’t believe that if I were a man and had done five installments of a huge blockbuster franchise over 25 years, that the number that I was offered would be the number that would be offered to a man.”

She added, “In my soul, I just couldn’t do that. I couldn’t walk on set feeling that — feeling undervalued and feeling the unfairness, or lack of fairness, around that.”

Campbell has appeared in all five “Scream” films since the original movie, directed by Wes Craven, was released in 1996. All in all, the franchise has grossed more than $744 million at the box office.

“Scream 6” premieres in theaters March 31, 2023.

In “Woe is the Night,” the fourth episode of Netflix’s latest smash-hit series “Wednesday,” star Jenna Ortega birthed the latest dance craze with a scene in which she boogies down to “Goo Goo Muck” by The Cramps. But while the scene has since gone viral on TikTok, filming it was a terrible experience for Ortega, who tested positive for COVID almost immediately afterwards.

In an interview with NME released ahead of the whole sensation, Ortega said that she woke up the day the scene was filmed feeling extremely sick. Production had her shoot the dance while awaiting her COVID results.

“It’s crazy because it was my first day with COVID so it was awful to film,” Ortega said. “I woke up and – it’s weird, I never get sick, and when I do, it’s not very bad – I had the body aches. I felt like I’d been hit by a car and that a little goblin had been let loose in my throat and was scratching the walls of my esophagus. They were giving me medicine between takes because we were waiting on the positive result.”

Ultimately that positive result materialized, and Ortega quarantined until she tested negative. In her interview with NME, Ortega said she asked to redo the scene — which she choreographed herself — after she recovered, but the production schedule was too tight. “Wednesday” viewers see the take from when she was sick.

In a statement to IndieWire, “Wednesday” production company MGM wrote that “strict COVID protocols were followed and once the positive test was confirmed production removed Jenna from set.”

With “Wednesday” going gangbusters, the NME story has resurfaced, and users on social media are criticizing how MGM handled the filming of the scene with a sick Ortega and a pending COVID test.

Starring Jenna Ortega as the title character, “Wednesday” sees the Addams’ daughter enroll in Nevermore Academy, where she makes new friends, develops psychic abilities, and investigates a string of murders around the town of Jericho, Vermont. The series also stars Gwendoline Christie, Jamie McShane, Percy Hynes White, Hunter Doohan, Emma Myers, Joy Sunday, Naomi J Ogawa, Moosa Mostafa, Georgie Farmer, Riki Lindhome, and Christina Ricci, who played the character of Wednesday in two films released in 1991 and 1993. The show also features Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, Fred Armisen, and Isaac Ordonez in recurring roles as the other Addams Family members.

Alfred Gough and Miles Millar are the showrunners and executive produce with Tim Burton, 1.21 Entertainment’s Steve Stark and Andrew Mittman, Tee and Charles Addams Foundation’s Kevin Miserocchi, Glickmania’s Jonathan Glickman and Kayla Alpert, Gail Berman, Tommy Harper, and Kevin Lafferty. Burton directed four of the first season’s eight episodes. The show has not yet been renewed for a Season 2, but its big debut numbers seem promising.

Since its release, “Wednesday” received mixed reviews, with many critics praising Ortega’s portrayal of the character but criticizing the writing as derivative of other teen shows. In his review, IndieWire TV critic Ben Travers wrote: “When it comes to the macabre, Wednesday (and, more so, “Wednesday”) is all talk and little action — a well-rounded character hammered into the rectangular icon on your Netflix homescreen, by an algorithm built to conform.”

Netflix and the new series Wednesday are facing backlash after the show’s star Jenna Ortega admitted to having COVID-19 while filming a crucial scene.

The dance that Jenna does in episode four has quickly gone viral and it has even become a trend on TikTok.

“I choreographed that myself!” Jenna told NME. “I’m not a dancer and I’m sure that’s obvious. I’d gotten the song [The Cramps’ 1981 single ‘Goo Goo Muck’] about a week before and I just pulled from whatever I could… it’s crazy because it was my first day with COVID so it was awful to film.”

Jenna added, “Yeah, I woke up and – it’s weird, I never get sick and when I do it’s not very bad – I had the body aches. I felt like I’d been hit by a car and that a little goblin had been let loose in my throat and was scratching the walls of my esophagus. They were giving me medicine between takes because we were waiting on the positive result.”

“I asked to redo it but we didn’t have time. I think I probably could have done it a bit better,” Jenna said.

Wednesday‘s production company MGM said “strict COVID protocols were followed and once the positive test was confirmed production removed Jenna from set.”

The show is still facing backlash on social media for allowing Jenna to be on set when she was experiencing COVID symptoms, even if she wasn’t testing positive at the time. Fans are defending Jenna though as many are coming to the conclusion that she likely felt obligated to work while her COVID tests came back negative.

@LilySimpson1312′s tweet has nearly 100,000 likes. She tweeted, “this is a bad thing right? we all agree that this is not some ‘persevering through hardship’ moment, its a why the f–k didn’t she get sent home, she could get horrendously sick or infect others kinda moment. like the details are that she was waiting for a test while filming and it did come back positive but SHE SHOULD HAVE STILL ISOLATED WHILE WAITING FOR A TEST, Tim Burtons f–king artistic vision aint worth dead people.”

@CarrieCnh12 wrote, “Yes, this is a very bad thing. It was dangerous, unethical, and extremely selfish thing to do, both on her part, and on the part of the directors and producers. Jenna Ortega is revealing what she would want out of a second season of her hit Netflix series Wednesday!

The 20-year-old actress of course stars as the titular character of Wednesday Addams in the show, which smashed Stranger Things‘ fourth season record.

While the show hasn’t officially been renewed yet, we’re pretty sure we’ll get a second season, based on this week’s viewing numbers. Jenna has opened up about what she’d like to see for her character.

“I kind of want her to be darker,” she toldET. “I want her to get more in the nitty-gritty of things and not play things so safe, because there are a lot of lines about her saving the school and doing whatever, but for me, her main drive with the monster is of a competitiveness. In the world of “The Addams Family,” Wednesday Addams has been a perpetual 10-year-old girl with a deadpan wit and a love for the murderous and macabre. It was something that Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, creators of Netflix’s new series “Wednesday,” wanted to change with their take, separating Wednesday from her family and giving her her own chance to shine.

“She was never the center of the scene,” Millar told IndieWire via Zoom.

Using the illustrations of Charles Addams, who crafted “The Addams Family” back in 1938, as inspiration, Gough and Millar went back and forth on what type of world Wednesday would inhabit. “Because of the ‘Harry Potter’ of it all [the question was] should she be at a regular school and then be a fish out of water?” Millar said. “But it felt kind of one-note and she’d always have to return home at night to the family that [we] wanted to get away from.”

Because Tim Burton directed four of the series’ eight episodes, his voice also needed to be taken into consideration. “We always say the tone of the show is really the Tim Burton tone,” said Gough, which manifests in Wednesday’s patented dark striped wardrobe, compliments of Burton’s long-time costume designer Colleen Atwood, as well as her dark sense of humor. This is a series that culminates a high school dance by dumping blood red paint on everyone, after all. “It all feels very accessible to a large audience while still feeling kind of anti,” Gough said.

But while Wednesday Addams has a murderous streak to her, there was hesitation as to how dark things could go on the show. The creators already knew the plotline itself would be heavy, with Wednesday solving a murder mystery, but they also knew the character herself would have to be suitably macabre, and it left Netflix with some pause. “Netflix was always very supportive and the executives were huge Addams Family fans,” Gough said.

But, as Millar pointed out, there was a desire to make small changes. “We still did have executives wanting to cut some lines,” he said. The line in question comes when Wednesday’s roommate Enid (Emma Meyers) encourages Wednesday to “take a stab at being social” to which Wednesday responds that she’s fond of stabbings. “That’s the whole point of the character,” Millar said. “To lose that or dilute that is a betrayal of the character.”

Thankfully, the line stayed in the series.

It’s a tad ironic that Netflix would hesitate at a line like that, especially considering the series involves murder, including the death of Nevermore Academy’s principal, Larissa Weems (Gwendoline Christie). Both creators said they didn’t want this to mimic “Scooby Doo”; the characters’ actions here have consequences. In the case of Weems’ death, the pair knew it needed to have significance, and not just because Christie played another beloved (and incredibly strong) character, Brienne of Tarth in “Game of Thrones” and fans would be sad to see her go.

“Gwendolyn loved it,” Gough said. “She read all eight scripts before she had signed on. You see Gwendolyn in a way you’ve never seen her before. She’s incredibly glamorous and she inhabits that character so well.”
