Jenna Ortega opens up about her time on Disney Channel and going to “Disney Prom“!

The 20-year-old actress, who of course starred in Stuck in the Middle on the network, was on Jimmy Kimmel Live to promote her new series Wednesday.

While making her first late night talk show appearance, she talked about growing up on set and transitioning to home-school after landing on the Disney show.

When Jimmy asked if she went to prom, she told him that Disney held their own prom for their actors.

“Disney has like a separate prom for their kids,” she told Jimmy. “I think they’re trying to make us feel normal, but it’s just really awkward because you don’t know these kids, and their parents are there, and people are socializing and promoting themselves.”

She adds, “It’s a really sweet thing on Disney’s part, but it is a bit odd.”

Speaking of awkward, Jenna also opened up about a moment with Christina Ricci on the set of Wednesday.

“I feel like I personally made it a little weird,” she said. “I feel she was really sweet about it. Me, it was one of the most awkward experiences I’ve ever had.”

“You know, I’m dressed up the way she was 30 years ago, and she’s getting to watch me, but I know her as Wednesday in my head,” Jenna continued. “And I think socially, I can be kind of hard to communicate with at times, and somethings I would say something as a joke. I think I have a very dark sense of humor, and she would go, ‘Ooh, that’s dark.’ So then I just wouldn’t want to talk again, you know… But she’s a sweetheart!”

Jenna Ortega reunites with Luis Guzmán backstage at the Critics Choice Association’s Celebration of Latino Cinema and Television held at Fairmont Century Plaza on Sunday (November 13) in Century City, Calif.

The 20-year-old actress received the Rising Star Award for Television presented by IMDbPro, which her Wednesday TV dad presented to her.

“It’s really such an honor and I feel so fortunate. I’m very, very lucky. Thank you to Critics’ Choice Awards and all of you guys,” she said in her speech. “I really hope that with my work I’m able to inspire other young Latinas, or Latinos even, and make sure to encourage them to pursue the arts and show them that there’s room for us, all of us. It doesn’t have to be a select few.”

Also receiving awards that night were With Love‘s Gloria Calderon Kellett with the Producer Award for Television and Brandon Perea with Rising Star Award for Film presented by IMDbPro.

The Flash‘s Sasha Calle, Saved by the Bell‘s Alycia Pascual-Pena, Blindspotting‘s Jaylen Barron, Look Both Ways‘ Danny Ramirez and With Love‘s Constance Marie were also in attendance at the event.

Apparently, Sidney Prescott is going the way of Samantha Jones for “Scream 6”: heard but not seen.

Following Neve Campbell’s departure from the “Scream” franchise over salary disputes, “Scream 6” star Jenna Ortega told Entertainment Tonight that Campbell’s iconic final girl character will still be referenced in the upcoming film.

“It’s very clear, there’s references to Sidney, of course,” Ortega said. “You know, it’s nice because there’s still a protectiveness in the script and that’s something that the actors had naturally over her because obviously we respect her and we want the best for her. She’s missed and thought of.”

Ortega continued, “I feel like I can’t really speak too much on that just because it’s not necessarily my character. But I will say there’s so much going on in this next one, that it’s so action-heavy and so gore-heavy that I think you’re going to be distracted almost.”

Ortega reprises her “Scream” role alongside Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Mason Gooding for the sixth film, in theaters March 31, 2023. Franchise staple Courteney Cox is back, as well as “Scream 4” alum Hayden Panettiere. Samara Weaving, Dermot Mulroney, Henry Czerny, Tony Revolori, Jack Champion, Devyn Nekoda, Liana Liberato, and Josh Segarra join the franchise, with “Scream 6” marking the first time killer Ghostface leaves the fictional suburb of Woodsboro. “Scream 6” is set in New York City.

After playing Sidney for over 25 years, Campbell revealed in 2021 that she believed her salary offer for the sixth film to be sexist. Campbell has appeared in all five “Scream” films since the original movie, directed by Wes Craven, was released in 1996. All in all, the franchise has grossed more than $744 million at the box office.

“I did not feel that what I was being offered equated to the value that I bring to this franchise, and have brought to this franchise, for 25 years,” Campbell told People. “As a woman in this business, I think it’s really important for us to be valued and to fight to be valued. I honestly don’t believe that if I were a man and had done five installments of a huge blockbuster franchise over 25 years, that the number that I was offered would be the number that would be offered to a man.”

If you didn’t know, the 42-year-old actress also portrayed the character in the 1991 film The Addams Family and it’s 1993 sequel Addams Family Values.

Christina will also be appearing in the upcoming Netflix series Wednesday, where she will portray Marilyn Thornhill, who is presumably a teacher at Nevermore Academy.

In a new interview, Christina gushed over Jenna‘s portrayal of Wednesday Addams.

Jenna Ortega wants us to rethink who is behind stories about teenage girls.

The “Scream” star, who leads Netflix’s upcoming “Wednesday” series, told Who What Wear that the recent shift in diverse storytelling has dismantled the notion that adolescent women are just a “lame stereotype” onscreen.

“I really see my young generation taking more control of themselves in the industry — whether it’s learning to write sooner, direct sooner, or produce sooner,” Ortega said. “I think it’s really empowering and important because, right now, teenage voices are still being told in the majority by older white males.”

The “X” star continued, “The more that happens, we’ll acknowledge that girls are much more than a lame stereotype.”

Ortega has been certified as a scream queen in her own right as the newest “Scream” final girl to appear in two installments with upcoming “Scream 6” ahead.

“I never really considered it because a lot of what I do is horror, and they all have these moody and nasty qualities, but what I love is that they also have a sassy teenage nature,” Ortega said. “The thing about horror is that it’s become a second home to me at this point. I’ve been on enough of those sets [that] I go and I know what’s expected of me. It feels like a typical 9-to-5.”

Ortega already promised that the upcoming “Scream 6,” the first installment sans Neve Campbell, will be the goriest yet. “I think that this is probably the most aggressive and violent version of Ghostface we’ve ever seen,” the 20-year-old actress said. The film also marks the first franchise movie to travel to New York City.

Iconic scream queen Cassandra Peterson, aka Elvira, reflected on the progression of final girls onscreen, exclusively telling IndieWire that over generations of horror films, the genre has upended the initially sexist portrayals of female characters.

“Women have come a long way in horror movies. They become the killer, they become the survivors,” Peterson said of the trope. “I think that is a reflection of where we are in society, moving in that direction instead of women always being the hapless victim who dies in the end. Women have much more of a presence now.”

Uncle Fester, is that you?

A new trailer for Netflix’s “Wednesday” series confirms Fred Armisen is playing the beloved hopeless romantic Addams Family member, Fester. The role was originally brought to the big screen with Christopher Lloyd in 1991’s “The Addams Family” and 1993’s “Addams Family Values.” Jackie Coogan played Uncle Fester in the original sitcom series.

The upcoming Netflix series stars Jenna Ortega as the titular teen Wednesday, along with her parents Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzmán in the partially Tim Burton-directed show, streaming November 23. Fellow “Addams Family” alum Christina Ricci also appears in the series as a teacher at Nevermore Academy, the school for gifted children where Wednesday taps into her psychic abilities. Gwendoline Christie plays the school principal.

Co-star Armisen confirmed to Vanity Fair that he shaved his head for the role of Uncle Fester instead of opting for a bald cap. The “Portlandia” creator cited his main inspiration as Coogan’s iteration of the character (“that’s the version I can hear”) while calling Llyod’s take “amazing.”

“I didn’t have any designs on, ‘Well, now I’m going to add this element…’ No, this is someone who likes wearing those big coats, and is enjoying his own eccentricities,” Armisen said.

Emmy nominee Ricci reunited with director Burton after collaborating on 1999’s “Sleepy Hollow,” co-starring Johnny Depp, who was at one point rumored to be playing Uncle Fester in the “Wednesday” series.

“Tim is such an incredible director and so creative and visionary and smart,” Ricci told Slant Magazine. “And as an actor, you basically just do anything he tells you to because he’s so good and you just trust him so much. And it’s such a gift to be on one of his sets. He’s just continued to make movie after movie after movie that have been genius and amazing. And it was like being 10 again to work with him. He was incredible and inspiring.”

As for Ortega taking over Ricci’s iconic role as Wednesday, the “Yellowjackets” star added, “I was in a lot of scenes with [Jenna], so I have witnessed [her performance] first-hand, and people are going to fall in love with her version of Wednesday. It’s a great modern take on the character.”

“Wednesday” is executive-produced by co-showrunners Miles Millar and Al Gough. Burton helms four out of the eight episodes.

“Wednesday” premieres November 23 on Netflix.

Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzmán play Morticia and Gomez Addams, with Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley Addams, Victor Dorobantu as Thing, and George Burcea as Lurch.

Per Netflix, Nevermore Academy was founded in 1791 to provide an educational haven for the supernaturally gifted Outcasts of the world. Named in honor of its most famous graduate, Edgar Allan Poe, the boarding school is home to werewolves, vampires, sirens, gorgons, and a spectrum of other students with uniquely chilling gifts. Nestled in the secluded woods of New England, the school grounds are just a brisk 25-minute walk away from the picturesque town of Jericho, one of the original Pilgrim settlements.

“It was really important to me that I did something different, even though she’s been done so flawlessly in the past,” Jenna says. “She’s a bit more socially awkward. There’s a confidence there but it’s more concealed.”

“Wednesday is technically a Latina character and that’s never been represented. So for me, any time that I have an opportunity to represent my community, I want that to be seen,” she adds.

Jenna then adds that she was nervous and just wanted to do it right, and did a lot of prep for the role.

“I honestly was so nervous to do this part because I just want to do her justice,” she said. “I went to fencing lessons twice a week. I went to cello lessons twice a week. A big part of it, too, was just physicality. I would walk like Wednesday and I think that people thought I might have been kind of crazy because I wanted her to be specific, and certain, and assertive.”

“She’s like a silent movie actress in a sense where she’s able to convey things without words, and to see the inner life and the subtleties was very exciting,” Tim Burton said. “And that’s why we’re very lucky to have Jenna, because I can’t imagine any other Wednesday.”

Ah, mothers and daughters. Add in a little creepy aesthetic, a few kooky sensibilities, and the mother-daughter relationship at the core of the Addams Family gets a little…weirder.

The highly anticipated trailer for “Wednesday,” Alfred Gough and Miles Millar’s reimagining of the iconic Addams Family for Netflix, centers on a teenage Wednesday (Jenna Ortega) trying to solve many mysteries, one being how to cement her own identity outside of the shadow of her ever-glamorous mother, Morticia Addams (Catherine Zeta-Jones).

“The relationship that kind of hangs over the season is really Wednesday’s relationship with Morticia,” Gough explained to Vanity Fair. “How do you step out of the shadow of a mother as glamorous as Morticia?”

And as Morticia and husband Gomez (Luis Guzmán) continue their sensual public displays of affection, Wednesday can only roll her eyes and find new ways to playfully torture her younger brother Pugsley (Isaac Ordonez).

“Wednesday is not scared of sharks or creepy crawlies or anything, but she’s afraid of emotion,” former “Smallville” creator Gough continued. “Their overt displays of affection drive Wednesday crazy.”

Wednesday also is tasked with harnessing her budding psychic ability to solve a serial killer case at Nevermore Academy high school and unlock the murder mystery that involved her parents 25 years ago.

Tim Burton, who famously passed on directing the 1991 film “The Addams Family,” now helms four out of the eight “Wednesday” episodes and serves as an executive producer for the series. Four-time Oscar winner and frequent Burton collaborator Colleen Atwood is brought on as the costume designer for the legendary gothic looks for the Addams clan.

“The ambition of the show was to make it an eight-hour Tim Burton movie,” Millar explained. “That’s something that was very important to the show — that it didn’t feel like a remake or a reboot. It’s something that lives within the Venn diagram of what happened before, but it’s its own thing. It’s not trying to be the movies or the ’60s TV show. That was very important to us and very important to Tim.”

On Tuesday (August 16), new photos were unveiled of the Addams Family – Jenna Ortega as Wednesday, Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia, Luis Guzmán as Gomez and Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley.

Over 25 years later and “Scream” is still upping the ante on gore. While a beloved legacy character finally met his match after a quarter-century of battling Ghostface, Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox) and Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) remain synonymous with final girls everywhere.

Yet the next generation of Ghostface survivors has breathed new life into the franchise after the success of “Scream 5,” the first film without late creator Wes Craven’s involvement. And final girl 2.0, played by Jenna Ortega, just teased exactly how much new blood will be spilled by Ghostface in the sixth installment.

“Ghostface gets a lot more intimidating,” Ortega revealed to Entertainment Tonight after reading the script for “Scream 6,” penned by “Scream 5” screenwriters James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick. “It just gets more and more gory. I think that this is probably the most aggressive and violent version of Ghostface we’ve ever seen, which I think will really be fun to shoot.”

Principal photography for “Scream 6” starts this summer with Radio Silence’s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett returning to helm the film, which is set for a March 31, 2023 release date. Ortega’s “Scream 5” co-stars Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Mason Gooding will reprise their respective roles as the surviving foursome venture out of Woodsboro for a new start after surviving Ghostface’s terror.

And “Scream 4” alum Hayden Panettiere is back as wise-cracking cinephile Kirby, while Dermot Mulroney makes his franchise debut as a police officer. While franchise staple Campbell recently confirmed she will not be returning for the sixth film, Courteney Cox has said she will reprise the role of Gale Weathers.

Ortega raved about working with Panettiere, teasing, “She has been one of my favorite characters in the franchise for a long time so the fact that her character gets to come back and redeem herself is really exciting.”

Plus, Ortega’s “Scream” character Tara is a direct callback to Panettiere’s Kirby with a shared love of films.

And, as Ortega is also starring in Netflix’s “Addams Family” spinoff series “Wednesday,” it’s unclear if she’s even read the full “Scream 6” script yet, since even “Scream 5” star (and one half of the Ghostface killing duo) Jack Quaid revealed the cast didn’t even know who the killer was until production.

“I never knew at any given time. We figured it out eventually but in the beginning, we all had different scripts,” Quaid said earlier this year. “In some, certain characters died. In others, they didn’t; this person was the killer in this script; in others, they weren’t. So we all had our theories. We were getting to know each other but were also like, ‘You’re a bit suspicious…'”

The latest installment of “The Addams Family” franchise stars Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams, a 16-year-old student at Nevermore Academy who harnesses her budding psychic ability to solve a serial killer case and unlock the murder mystery that involved her parents 25 years ago. Tim Burton directs and executive produces the Netflix series, aptly titled “Wednesday,” premiering on the streaming platform sometime in 2022.

Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzmán play Morticia and Gomez Addams, with Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley Addams, Victor Dorobantu as Thing, and George Burcea as Lurch. There’s no sighting of Cousin Itt (yet) in the trailer…but who knows what other frightful creatures may come out to play in the horror-comedy series.
