A new trailer for the upcoming Addams Family show Wednesday has been released!

On Saturday (October 8), Netflix debuted the trailer for the new show starring Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams.

The trailer also reveals that Fred Armisen will be playing Uncle Fester. It was previously rumored that Johnny Depp may be playing the role.

Wednesday, which also stars Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzman, Isaac Ordonez, and Christina Ricci, will premiere on Netflix on November 23.

The “Wednesday” series centers on the 16-year-old prodigy as she harnesses her budding psychic ability to solve a serial killer case and unlock the murder mystery that involved her parents 25 years ago. Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzmán play Morticia and Gomez Addams, with Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley Addams, Victor Dorobantu as Thing, and George Burcea as Lurch.

Per Netflix, Nevermore Academy was founded in 1791 to provide an educational haven for the supernaturally gifted Outcasts of the world. Named in honor of its most famous graduate, Edgar Allan Poe, the boarding school is home to werewolves, vampires, sirens, gorgons, and a spectrum of other students with uniquely chilling gifts. Nestled in the secluded woods of New England, the school grounds are just a brisk 25-minute walk away from the picturesque town of Jericho, one of the original Pilgrim settlements.

Alfred Gough and Miles Millar serve as showrunners, writers, and executive producers for the series, premiering this fall on Netflix. Jenna Ortega is opening up about taking on the iconic role of Wednesday Addams!

The 19-year-old actress will be portraying the Addams Family character in the upcoming Netflix series Wednesday.

In a new featurette, Jenna dished on bringing her to life, and wanting to do justice by Wednesday. Director Tim Burton, showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, as well as some of her co-stars also talked about her delivery.

“It was really important to me that I did something different, even though she’s been done so flawlessly in the past,” Jenna says. “She’s a bit more socially awkward. There’s a confidence there but it’s more concealed.”

“Wednesday is technically a Latina character and that’s never been represented. So for me, any time that I have an opportunity to represent my community, I want that to be seen,” she adds.

Jenna then adds that she was nervous and just wanted to do it right, and did a lot of prep for the role.

“I honestly was so nervous to do this part because I just want to do her justice,” she said. “I went to fencing lessons twice a week. I went to cello lessons twice a week. A big part of it, too, was just physicality. I would walk like Wednesday and I think that people thought I might have been kind of crazy because I wanted her to be specific, and certain, and assertive.”

“She’s like a silent movie actress in a sense where she’s able to convey things without words, and to see the inner life and the subtleties was very exciting,” Tim Burton said. “And that’s why we’re very lucky to have Jenna, because I can’t imagine any other Wednesday.”

Ah, mothers and daughters. Add in a little creepy aesthetic, a few kooky sensibilities, and the mother-daughter relationship at the core of the Addams Family gets a little…weirder.

The highly anticipated trailer for “Wednesday,” Alfred Gough and Miles Millar’s reimagining of the iconic Addams Family for Netflix, centers on a teenage Wednesday (Jenna Ortega) trying to solve many mysteries, one being how to cement her own identity outside of the shadow of her ever-glamorous mother, Morticia Addams (Catherine Zeta-Jones).

“The relationship that kind of hangs over the season is really Wednesday’s relationship with Morticia,” Gough explained to Vanity Fair. “How do you step out of the shadow of a mother as glamorous as Morticia?”

And as Morticia and husband Gomez (Luis Guzmán) continue their sensual public displays of affection, Wednesday can only roll her eyes and find new ways to playfully torture her younger brother Pugsley (Isaac Ordonez).

“Wednesday is not scared of sharks or creepy crawlies or anything, but she’s afraid of emotion,” former “Smallville” creator Gough continued. “Their overt displays of affection drive Wednesday crazy.”

Wednesday also is tasked with harnessing her budding psychic ability to solve a serial killer case at Nevermore Academy high school and unlock the murder mystery that involved her parents 25 years ago.

Tim Burton, who famously passed on directing the 1991 film “The Addams Family,” now helms four out of the eight “Wednesday” episodes and serves as an executive producer for the series. Four-time Oscar winner and frequent Burton collaborator Colleen Atwood is brought on as the costume designer for the legendary gothic looks for the Addams clan.

“The ambition of the show was to make it an eight-hour Tim Burton movie,” Millar explained. “That’s something that was very important to the show — that it didn’t feel like a remake or a reboot. It’s something that lives within the Venn diagram of what happened before, but it’s its own thing. It’s not trying to be the movies or the ’60s TV show. That was very important to us and very important to Tim.”

The cast also includes Victor Dorobantu as Thing and George Burcea as Lurch, but audiences will have to wait to see who the big reveal is for Uncle Fester. “Wednesday” is also keeping it all in “The Addams Family” with Christina Ricci (who played Wednesday in the ’90s movies) returning to the franchise as a series regular. Gwendoline Christie, Hunter Doohan, Percy Hynes White, Joy Sunday, Emma Myers, Riki Lindhome, Jamie McShane, Georgie Farmer, Naomi Ogawa, and Moosa Mostafa round out the ensemble cast.

Over 25 years later and “Scream” is still upping the ante on gore. While a beloved legacy character finally met his match after a quarter-century of battling Ghostface, Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox) and Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) remain synonymous with final girls everywhere.

Yet the next generation of Ghostface survivors has breathed new life into the franchise after the success of “Scream 5,” the first film without late creator Wes Craven’s involvement. And final girl 2.0, played by Jenna Ortega, just teased exactly how much new blood will be spilled by Ghostface in the sixth installment.

“Ghostface gets a lot more intimidating,” Ortega revealed to Entertainment Tonight after reading the script for “Scream 6,” penned by “Scream 5” screenwriters James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick. “It just gets more and more gory. I think that this is probably the most aggressive and violent version of Ghostface we’ve ever seen, which I think will really be fun to shoot.”

Principal photography for “Scream 6” starts this summer with Radio Silence’s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett returning to helm the film, which is set for a March 31, 2023 release date. Ortega’s “Scream 5” co-stars Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Mason Gooding will reprise their respective roles as the surviving foursome venture out of Woodsboro for a new start after surviving Ghostface’s terror.

And “Scream 4” alum Hayden Panettiere is back as wise-cracking cinephile Kirby, while Dermot Mulroney makes his franchise debut as a police officer. While franchise staple Campbell recently confirmed she will not be returning for the sixth film, Courteney Cox has said she will reprise the role of Gale Weathers.

Ortega raved about working with Panettiere, teasing, “She has been one of my favorite characters in the franchise for a long time so the fact that her character gets to come back and redeem herself is really exciting.”

Plus, Ortega’s “Scream” character Tara is a direct callback to Panettiere’s Kirby with a shared love of films.

And, as Ortega is also starring in Netflix’s “Addams Family” spinoff series “Wednesday,” it’s unclear if she’s even read the full “Scream 6” script yet, since even “Scream 5” star (and one half of the Ghostface killing duo) Jack Quaid revealed the cast didn’t even know who the killer was until production.

“I never knew at any given time. We figured it out eventually but in the beginning, we all had different scripts,” Quaid said earlier this year. “In some, certain characters died. In others, they didn’t; this person was the killer in this script; in others, they weren’t. So we all had our theories. We were getting to know each other but were also like, ‘You’re a bit suspicious…'”

Porn — the possibility of it, the promise of what it might do — is at the center of Ti West’s ’70s-set horror outing “X,” which follows a scrappy group of Texans who alight for a quiet farmhouse to film their very own X-rated film, as inspired by the massive success of “Debbie Does Dallas.” Of course, given that this is a horror film from Ti West, nothing goes to plan — quiet farmhouses owned by creepy, leering elderly people are hardly safe, especially for free-wheeling aspiring filmmakers with a taste for flesh — and the film’s blood-soaked opening moments make that very clear indeed.

But West soon throws the film back in time, allowing his audience to catch up on a very busy 24 hours for said scrappy film crew, including star-in-the-making Maxine (Mia Goth), free-spirited Bobby-Lynne (Brittany Snow), and the reserved Lorraine (Jenna Ortega), the trio of leading ladies of both “X” and the fake pornographic film at its center. Along with ringleader Wayne (Martin Henderson), big talent Jackson (Scott “Kid Cudi” Mescudi), and wannabe director RJ (Owen Campbell), the ill-fated cast and crew do manage to film a variety of decidedly X-rated scenes before the blood starts being shed.

And, in a film bursting with blood and guts and broken bones and plenty more where that came from, it was those sex-charged scenes that were really scary. But as the film’s trio of leading ladies told IndieWire during a recent interview, West and the rest of his cast and crew endeavored to make the scenes as easy, fun, and safe as possible, no matter how “outrageous” they were on the page.

“Probably filming the porn film was the scariest moment for me, but more than anything, I think it was just the anticipation of it all,” Goth said. “I knew that everyone that was in the kitchen making this happen, they were going to execute this film to a really high level. And then I read the script and that confirmed what I already thought.”

She added that, in frequent conversations with West, the filmmaker “always said that it was going to be done in a tasteful way.” (Goth’s admiration for West and his vision has already been fruitful: the pair shot a secret prequel to “X” that stars Goth in a, how to say, unique role — more on that to come later this week on IndieWire.)

Snow’s experience was similar — excitement mixed with anticipation and some healthy fear — but West’s dedication to not being salacious with any of the sex scenes helped.

“I initially read the script and I was a little scared, because it was outrageous in the best way,” Snow said. “Not only was I going to be baring my soul and my body, but also my singing. There was a lot of scary elements to it. Then I talked to Ti and I realized that the way that he was going to shoot it, that the sexuality of the characters was more based in who they were and what their endeavors were, as opposed to shooting it in a gratuitous way where you were really going to feel like it was exploitative in terms of their bodies.”

For Ortega, a former Disney kid who has been expanding her work into decidedly more grownup fare, the chance to do something really different was intriguing.

“I had never read anything like it before, and that was super-enticing to me,” Ortega said. “I love that my character comes off one way initially, and then flips the script mid-film. … I just had a lot of faith in everybody who was behind the project and faith in the script itself. I was really eager to do something that I had never done before and put myself in an environment that was so different from anything I’ve ever filmed.”

For each of the film’s female stars, keeping up a constant stream of conversation with West was key to feeling comfortable, and not just in terms of how the sequences would be filmed, but why they existed. “Ti made us feel very, very comfortable,” Snow said. “We also had a lot of control and agency over how it was done, which I think was crucial in doing this.”

As Goth noted, the porn shoot is part of each character’s primary motivation. They all want to be there, there’s never anything untoward about the situation.

They’re not just making a porno for the sake of making a porno,” Goth said. “They’re all very ambitious and they’re all very driven and they have their own ideas of what success means and what they want. It’s them wanting to make something more of themselves, and wanting to really just create a better life for themselves. That, I could understand, and I related to that.”

Snow added that it was important to her that Bobby-Lynne, one of the more eager participants in the porno “was powerful and had agency over her body.” And while Ortega’s Lorraine first arrives as the quiet, God-fearing, boom mic–wielding girlfriend of RJ, she eventually decides that she wants to get in front of the camera, too.

“That wasn’t a conscious decision. The scene actually wasn’t initially in the script,” Ortega said. “When I signed on, that wasn’t a part [of the film]. It was something that came later on. … [It was] flipping the stereotype over and just taking somebody who you wouldn’t really see in that position suddenly in that position. I think it adds to the spontaneity of the decision and also just the spontaneity of the film.”

While both Goth and Snow bare all on-screen, they’re not alone: Henderson and Mescudi strip down, too. “I think that it was really important for us that Scott and Martin were just as naked, because I think it shows that there was more of an atmosphere and a meaning to this porn movie that was justified [in terms of] us all using our bodies as a, I don’t know, like a mechanism, instead of it being gratuitous,” Snow said.

All three stars pointed to intimacy coordinator Tandi Wright — “the sweetest, kindest intimacy coordinator in the world,” Ortega said — for adding to their comfort and spawning still more conversations with West and the rest of the cast and crew.

“I think in the past couple of years, it’s been a prerequisite to any scene that you feel is intimate in any way, even when I’ve kissed someone in a scene, I feel like it should be taken seriously, because I think it needs to be treated mechanically and like a dance. It has to be professional, and the actors have to feel comfortable,” Snow said. “This is a professional situation. Tandi was so fantastic to work with and made us feel, not only comfortable in terms of our own skin, but comfortable within our characters and really allowing us the space to be who we were supposed to be in that moment, and not thinking about the physicality and the vulnerability of it all.”

Goth had never worked with an intimacy coordinator before “X,” but found the experience to be incredibly helpful as well.

“I didn’t really know what to expect with our first meeting. It was me and with Scott and Tandi, and we met up in a hotel room and we just got to know each other a little bit,” Goth said. “I found it very beneficial. because we were able to get through any awkwardness that you might have felt on set beforehand. It just really allowed you to get to set on the day and start having fun with it. You build that sense of trust and safety with your coworker.”

Was it scary? Sure. But the results speak for themselves. “Just thinking about it and going over the scene and getting ready for it all [was scary], but by the time you do the first take and you’ve established what it is and what needs to get done, that goes away,” Goth said. “Then you can start having fun with it and just try to make the scene as good as possible.”
